Does anyone here have experience with an INEOS Grenadier?

May 08, 2024,23:14 PM

I've known about the vehicle project for some time, and growing less and less interested in the Cybertruck, I'm looking in other directions. This is the dream of Jim Ratcliffe who owns INEOS, a conglomerate of 20+ companies primarily chemicals. Sketched out over drinks in the Grenadier pub in London about 5 years ago. We are about the same age, and the only difference between my dreams and his is that JimR is worth £25 billion more than I am. A few years ago he was the richest man in England, then for some reason (!)  he moved to Monaco.

“The brief was simple. Design a modern, functional and highly capable 4X4 vehicle with utility at its core; a design that’s ‘easy-to-read’, with no ambiguity about its role in life. Everything there that you need, and nothing you don’t. Nothing is for show. Fill the gap in the market, which was abandoned by a number of manufacturers, for a utilitarian off-road vehicle, not a luxury SUV."

Engineering in Austria and assembly in the former SmartTwo factory in NE of France. About 20 sales outlets in North America and 150 more in the rest of the world.

Even if you would never buy such a vehicle, the videos are very entertaining (educational too).  GRENADIER VIDEOS PAGE (English)

Shown here in my driveway is the basic truck with only matching steel wheels (powder-coated), a baseball-glove leather steering wheel and brake handle, and trailer towing equipment.
For about the same price as the Corvette I had sitting here for awhile...

I like the instrument and switch panels. A minimum of electronic trickery and screens thank goodness.  The sales manager brought it to my house so I could look it over.

Specially-tuned 3.0L BMW straight six with ZF 8-speed automatic, proprietary hi/lo transfer case, full-time 4WD with center locking and optional locking front and rear diffs. All new, but old school solid axles & ladder frame.

Seats 5 and has room for a EU-size pallet in the back (1m cube, I think plus a bit)

Later we went down to see what other vehicles were in stock - about a dozen are here at the moment.

Snorkel and wading package for additional water resistance

Leather interior version

Integrated winch package.

Upgraded wheels and tires.

Amusingly, this is the same dealership showroom that once sold us this Fiat!

In my home town, of all places! At first glance, thought it was a Rover. Apparently there is a dealer nearby. Cool to see, but not for me

Not a lot of them

But they are around. Surely I see more because there is a dealer close by

And did it take the place of the Corvette?

Have not had the pleasure of driving one yet but like the idea behind it, even if my commute nowadays requires more of a highway capability and less of what INEOS offers 😊🤷🏻‍♂️ What’s your driving impression?

I didn’t buy that one

Of course I just drove it on residential streets, where it was a bit bumpy, tall, and not that agile compared to our normal vehicles. Steering was light (power) and surprisingly slow with double the terms lock to lock so after making a turn the wheel has ...

Interesting stuff.

I think it's a great concept that's genuinely missing in the general marketplace. I can easily see the appeal of it, but likewise want to read more of your first hand conclusions.... Cheers, Filip

Interesting. 1st thought I had is that since Mossy now owns every Nissan dealership in town why are they selling these LR inspired off roaders and Fiats. Makes me think that Nissan is

struggling. Have you considered an Icon FJ-40__? I know I'd take that over Elon's giant quirkymobile... maybe this also.

The sales manager sold Toyota trucks for 15 years

Had pre ordered one upon it's release. Was delivered in february 23 and liked it from the beginning

I have one, but I mine is still very much new, didn‘t even drive 1000km yet, so I can‘t really give real world feedback yet.

Bought the trialmaster version, so not road focused, as it‘s not my daily. It‘s more like a weekend toy for me and so far it seems to be perfect for me. Build quality is really good and satisfying on mine, but I don‘t see it as a luxury car. It‘s really m...

I saw on recently. I think if they can prove that they won't be a pile of rust like the other guys...then they may capture a lot of marketshare from people forced to buy "vintage".

For anybody who likes the Land Rovers and pottering around...I recommend the YouTube channel "Land Rover Sophie".
